Cross

Cross, High cross (present location)

What is recorded here

One chamber wall leans out like a hand reaching across centuries. The cross stands split between counties, its base in a Sligo graveyard and its shaft in Dublin, as if distance itself bent around the shape. People may have carried it chamber by chamber, or perhaps it fell and was rebuilt elsewhere. Either way, the cross refused to be complete in one place.
This is the present location for the shaft of the high cross the base of which stands in the graveyard at Drumcliff, Co. Sligo (SL008-084008-). Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 15 October 2013
