Faughart, County Louth, Ireland: buried cross fragment, thirty-four by thirty-one centimetres, recovered in 1997 from a graveyard wall. One side bears a ten-centimetre boss; the other a ringed cupmark. The shape suggests a small high cross, perhaps the one lost from the base still standing there. Stone remembers what testimony forgets.
A fragment of what appears to have been a high cross was recovered during the restoration of a small portion of the graveyard wall at Faughart c. 1997. The fragment (dims. 0.34m by 0.31m) consists of a portion of carved granite, representing the central part of a small high cross. On one side there is a prominent boss (diam. 0.1m), which stands proud of the surface. The decoration on the other sides cosnsits of a circular area (diam. 0.14m) defined by a ring with a central ‘cupmark’. This fragment may have been part of the cross that stood in the cross base at the graveyard (LH004-097006-).

A fragment of a high cross, likely dating to the early medieval period (c. 9th–11th century), was discovered at Faughart in the 1990s; its style suggests a Christian dedication and connection to the broader tradition of Irish high crosses, though the specific builder and full significance remain unidentified.
