Cross is a cross, high cross in Drumcliff South, County Sligo, Ireland. Two surviving fragments, likely from its shaft, are built into the walls of St Columba’s church in Drumcliff graveyard. One sits in the north porch wall beside the 1704 graveslab of Elizabeth Soden, while the other forms part of the west door quoin in the nave. Both display interlace designs matching the complete high cross standing elsewhere in the graveyard.
In St Columba’s church in Drumcliff graveyard (SL008-084002-). The remains comprise two fragments. The first is built into the north interior wall of the porch of the Church of Ireland church (built 1809) beside a graveslab (SL008-084013-) to Elizabeth Soden (dated 1704). The exposed face (L 1m; T 0.30m) is decorated with a series of interlace designs similar to those on the high cross (SL008-08404-) in the graveyard (SL008-084002-). The second fragment is set into the west wall of the nave and forms part of the quoin of the S ingoing for the west door. The stone measures 1.05m along its exposed E face and 0.68m along the ingoing; it is 0.30m thick. The E face is decorated with similar ornament to the other fragment described above and has a small socket (L 0.14m; Wth 0.08m; D 0.07 ) at its N end. It seems likely that these two fragments formed part of the shaft of a high cross.
