Crookston Castle is the only surviving medieval castle in Glasgow, built around 1400 by the Darnley Stewarts inside older 12th-century earthworks. It resisted James IV with Mons Meg in 1489, fell to Arran and Beaton in 1544, and may have witnessed the betrothal of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, beneath a yew tree later carved into a model. Now a ruined watchtower above the Levern Water, it still holds the shape of every siege that failed to erase it.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Crookston Castle as Archaeological Feature (period Unknown). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Crookston Castle was built by the Maxwell family in the 14th century and later held by the Earls of Nithsdale. It is important as a historic stronghold associated with the powerful Maxwell clan and the region's medieval history.
