Crocketford stands on Castle Douglas Road as a post Medieval toll house, marking the point where passage once required payment. The cottage still holds the shape of that transaction, a small guardroom for cars and carts that crossed the land. Whether people lived inside or merely collected coins remains unknown, but the building preserves the moment when movement became a deal.
