Crocketford stands on Castle Douglas Road as a recorded smithy, its anvil still embedded where hot steel once sang. The house may have smelled of coal smoke and warmed iron, shaping tools for nearby fields while men sweated at the forge. That much remains visible; the rest belongs to imagination and memory.
