Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Crieff, Brown's Lane, St Thomas's Well as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
St Thomas's Well is associated with St Thomas, a Christian saint venerated in various parts of Scotland, and was traditionally visited for its supposed healing properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin. Holy wells dedicated to St Thomas were often linked to local pilgrimage customs and were sometimes visited on 21 December, the feast day of St Thomas Becket.
