Why this matters

Built by the Prince of Gwynedd, Llywelyn the Great, in the early 13th century, Criccieth Castle later came under English control after the conquest of Wales by Edward I. It is important as a symbol of medieval power struggles in Wales and for its well-preserved architecture.
