What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 1940 'Richard Butler of Kilkash Esq Irish Papist' was proprietor of Cregg and 'Upon the sd lands stands a stone house' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 262). In the Hearth Money Rolls Hugh Neale is mentioned in 1667 as being the possessor of a house of two hearths in the townland of Cregg (Ó Néill n.d., 193). The present Cregg House is a five-bay, two-storey over basement Georgian house with steps up to the central doorway. The exact location of the 16th/17th-century house is unknown.
