CRANNOG: SHEMY'S ISLAND in Intake

CRANNOG: SHEMY'S ISLAND

What is recorded here

Crannog: Shemy's Island is a scheduled ancient island in County Derry, Ireland. It is an artificial dwelling place built above water, likely with timber, turf and stone. People may have lived there, farmed around it or kept it as a seasonal retreat. The name Shemy still belongs to the island, even though the water and land have changed since the building was first completed.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG: SHEMY'S ISLAND. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
