CRANNOG? in MILLTOWN LOUGH in Milltown

CRANNOG? in MILLTOWN LOUGH

What is recorded here

Crannog is an artificial island, often built with timber, stone and soil, where people lived beside water rather than on land. In Milltown Lough, the crannog would have risen from the surface like a small dark room made visible, with reeds at its edge and shadow beneath. It is the kind of place where ordinary life became clever, because water was both danger and neighbour.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG? in MILLTOWN LOUGH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
