Keenagh Beg in County Mayo holds a crannog, an artificial island where people may have built homes above the water. The lake would have hidden the wooden edges and forced every visitor to arrive by boat or wade through cold depth. That is all the facts supplied, but the shape suggests a life of firelight, fish smoke and careful balance on damp planks.
