Crannog in Gortaggle is a tiny gravel island in Mucklaghan Lough, County Leitrim, where wooden stakes still poke through reeds and water. It measures only eighteen by nine metres, yet it rises beside a lough half a kilometre across, large enough to swallow a village but small enough to doubt. A person may have stood there at dawn, reading the lake by the tilt of shadow and the patience of birds. The stakes remain because someone believed the water could be shaped, not only endured.

Located in reeds c. 20m from the NE shore of subcircular Mucklaghan Lough (max. dims c. 550m N-S; c. 350m E-W). This is a water and reed-covered, oval, gravel island (dims 18m NW-SE; 9m NE-SW; H 0.3m) with some wooden stakes visible at the W side.
