Goose Island rises in Killynure as a crannog, a built island where people may have lived beside the water before written records reached Fermanagh. The name suggests geese, marsh light and small daily life, while the submerged shape preserves more than it reveals.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG: GOOSE ISLAND. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
