What is recorded here

This wood commemorative plaque records: Cramond Kirk The first building on this site was a fort built by the Romans in the year 142. It was used by the Emperor Septimius Severus in 208 and remained under Roman influence until the 4th century. From the 6th century, when people are known to have been Christian, the site has been continuously occupied by a place of worship. The present church was built on the principia of the fort. The tower, which is the oldest part, dates from the 15th century. The main body of the kirk, in which 14th century masonry was re-used, was completed in the year 1656.
Cramond Kirk stands on a site historically significant since Roman times when it served as a fort; continuously used for worship from the 6th century, the current structure incorporates medieval elements and was largely completed in 1656.
