Craig-y-Nos Castle in Glyntawe belongs to the Post Medieval period and remains a recorded historic place. It may have served as a home, watchtower or boundary marker before people stopped maintaining it. The castle still exists because somebody built it to resist time, rain and forgetting.

Craig-y-Nos Castle was built in the late 18th century by the industrialist William Crawshay, and later enlarged in the 19th century by his son, Richard Crawshay, a prominent ironmaster. The castle is important as a notable example of Gothic Revival architecture and as a symbol of the wealth generated by the iron industry in the Welsh coalfield region.
