What is recorded here

Mount Wholly rises in Creevery as a counterscarp rath, holding its shape since the early Christian period. The earthworks still mark a boundary between human ambition and local identity. People may have climbed the mount to watch weather, claim territory or remember ancestors. The soil keeps that much of the world intact long after names and tools disappeared.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH: MOUNT WHOLLY or MOUNT HILLY. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
