Counterfort rath in Meenan, County Down. Early Christian period. Scheduled ancient earthwork, not a modern invention. A round fortress, probably with a cashel inside, standing above the land where people lived, prayed and defended themselves before written records reached the place.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
