COUNTERSCARP RATH in Ballynacannon

COUNTERSCARP RATH

What is recorded here

Marianne and Tomass walked past Ballynacannon at sunset, touching the rough stone edge of the counterscarp rath. The ancient ditch cut across the field like a forgotten sentence, waiting for someone to read it. Tomass tossed a bean into the grass and laughed, while Marianne watched the shadow lengthen across the ridge.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as COUNTERSCARP RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
