This blue commemorative plaque records: Here on 24th June 1983 Peter Ware, Editor, Yarmouth Mercury first launched Crimestoppers a unique crime detection scheme in association with Det Ch Inspector Michael Cole of Norfolk Police and Jim Carter, Manager of Woolworth, Great Yarmouth Recorded plaque organisation: Great Yarmouth Local History and Archaeological Society.
Peter Ware, along with Det Ch Insp Michael Cole and Jim Carter, initiated Crimestoppers in 1983, a pioneering anonymous tip-off service that significantly enhanced crime detection and community engagement in the UK.
