Commemorative plaque 60166

This black commemorative plaque records: THE NORTH WAREHOUSE. Built in 1826-7 by the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Co. This warehouse had eight individual store rooms which were rented to Corn Merchants and two basements which were used initially by Wine Importers. In this century it was leased by Priday Metford and Co who installed equipment for milling wholemeal flour. Restored by Gloucester City Council in 1986/6 Recorded plaque organisation: Port of Gloucester.

The North Warehouse, constructed in 1826-7 by the Gloucester and Berkeley Canal Company, served as a vital commercial hub for corn merchants and wine importers, reflecting the industrial and economic activities of 19th century Gloucester.
