This commemorative plaque records: Walter Tull memorial and garden of rest. This plaque was unveiled by the worshipful the mayor, Councillor Arthur McCutcheon on Sunday July 11th 1999 on behalf of the Sixfields Anti-Racism forum to commemorate the siting of the Walter Tull memorial. Dedicated to the life of a hero, a symbol of hope against all forms of racism.

Walter Tull was a pioneering British Army officer and professional footballer, remembered for being one of the first Black men to play in the Football League and to serve as an officer in the British Army during World War I. He is historically important as a symbol of hope and a figure who challenged racial barriers in early 20th century Britain.
