This commemorative plaque records: This stone was laid by HER ROYAL HIGHNESS the PRINCESS ELIZABETH at the opening of the New Broadgate and to mark the beginning of the Shopping Centre 22nd May 1948. Commemorated by Mr Bob Taylor LORD LIEUTENANT OF THE WEST MIDLANDS 22nd May 1998.
The stone was laid by Princess Elizabeth, future Queen Elizabeth II, marking the opening of the New Broadgate and the beginning of the Shopping Centre in 1948; the event commemorates early post-war reconstruction efforts.
