This blue commemorative plaque records: This Type 22 pillbox is the last remaining example of beachside World War II fortified defences between Highcliffe and Mudeford Quay. It was built around 1939 as part of layered anti-invasion defences that included numerous pillboxes, gun emplacements, look-out posts and low-tide anti-tank scaffolding, along with nearby minefields at Chewton Bunny and Friars Cliff beaches Recorded plaque organisation: Friars Cliff, Residents Association, Highcliffe Residents Association, Highcliffe & Walkford Parish Council.
