What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: 14, St John’s Street. This early 18th century house with its typically steep roofline is the oldest property in the street. From 1839 it was a solicitor's office, first of George England and then of successive generations of the Green family, who played an important part in Howdenshire's local government, acting as clerks to many public bodies until 1985. Recorded plaque organisation: Howden Civic Society, Heritage Lottery Fund.
The house at 14 St John’s Street is historically significant as it represents one of the oldest properties in the street and was notably used by the Green family for legal services and local governance from 1839 until 1985, contributing significantly to Howdenshire's administrative history.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
