This green commemorative plaque records: Hopper Cycle Works From a small workshop, opposite, established by Fred Hopper in 1880, Elswick-Hopper Cycle Works became one of the largest manufacturers of bicycles in the U.K. This is the site of the former office and additional extensive works were in Marsh Lane. Recorded plaque organisation: Barton-upon-Humber Civic Society.
Fred Hopper founded the Hopper Cycle Works in 1880, which grew to become one of the UK's leading bicycle manufacturers, significantly contributing to the cycling boom of the late 19th century.
