What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: Market Place. Market Day used to be Saturday. From medieval times farmers and their families came from nearby villages to buy and sell. In later years the workshops and shops in the market place supplied almost everything that Howden needed, from boots to candles and hats to dresses, all made on the premises. Recorded plaque organisation: Howden Civic Society, Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Market Place in Howden served as a vital economic hub from medieval times, facilitating local trade and commerce through weekly markets and later becoming home to diverse workshops and shops that met the community's needs.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
