This blue commemorative plaque records: In 1871 the Literary & Scientific Institute was built on the site of the New Street Theatre by the firm owned and run by Frances Hale (1818-1881). Mrs Hale’s firm built and restored many Salisbury buildings and employed up to 400 staff. Recorded plaque organisation: Salisbury Civic Society.
