This blue commemorative plaque records: Port House. Port House was designed in 1899 by J Alison of Hawick for the Co-operative Society. The design displays an early and exceptional use of 'curtain walling' where the majority of the wall is glass. Note the carved shields on the piers. It was built on the site of the Corn Exchange which burned down with the loss of many historical artifacts. Recorded plaque organisation: Royal Burgh of Jedburgh.
