Commemorative plaque 88081

This blue commemorative plaque records: The Old Station. The Station, with this elegant porte-cochère, was built in 1847 by Abraham Pattinson who went on to build much of Windermere village. Following engineering and financial difficulties, oppposition from landowners and William Wordsworth, the railway terminated here at Birthwaite instead of at Low Wood nearer to Ambleside. The building was converted to its present use by EH Booth & Co Ltd in 1985 Recorded plaque organisation: Windermere and Bowness Civic Society.
