Comlongon Castle is a red sandstone tower built by the Murrays of Cockpool in the early 1500s to replace their earlier home at Cockpool. Its thick walls rise from a stone plinth because the ground beneath was once marshy, and a vaulted cellar still holds a well beneath two spiral stairs. The hall displays a large fireplace, Royal Arms of Scotland, and a carved ceremonial recess that signals the family's wealth. It has since become a mansion, a children's home, a hotel, and a wedding venue, carrying several lives across centuries without losing its shape.
