Comlongon Castle is a red sandstone tower built around 1500 for the Murrays of Cockpool, standing on a stone plinth above marshy ground in Dumfries and Galloway. Its thick walls, vaulted cellar and carved hall show a family proud enough to display the Royal Arms of Scotland beside a ceremonial aumbry. The Murrays kept it until 1984, then it became a children's home, a hotel and a wedding venue before falling into administration in 2019.
