Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Colonsay, Cnoc Nan Gall, Cille Chiaran as Chapel (early Medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Cille Chiaran is associated with St Ciarán, a 6th-century Irish monk and saint, who is believed to have founded a monastery on the island of Colonsay. The site is linked to early Christian pilgrimage and may have been a place of prayer and healing, typical of many holy wells and early chapels in the Scottish Isles.
