Collins Barracks

Detached single-storey military building, built c.1820, comprising seven-bay southern section with adjoining two-bay northern section. Now in use as offices. Pitched artificial slate roofs with uPVC fascia and rainwater goods. Squared rubble limestone to east elevation with rubble sandstone walls to west and concrete render to north. Square-headed window openings with red brick heads, red brick block-and-start surrounds, limestone sills and uPVC windows. Square-headed door openings with limestone Gibbsian surrounds with numbers painted to keystones and replacement doors with uPVC windows to some openings. Located within barrack complex.

Though its original function is unclear, this is one of the structures constructed in the early nineteenth century when the barracks was founded. A complex of stables, which are no longer extant, were constructed to the east, while there were wagon sheds to the south. The Gibbsian surrounds and dressed limestone façade are of particular note, and are features which are found in contemporary buildings elsewhere in the complex.
