St Andrew's Well in Coldingham is associated with St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, and was likely a site of pilgrimage and healing in medieval times. Holy wells dedicated to St Andrew were often visited for their supposed curative properties, particularly for ailments of the joints and digestive system, and were sometimes linked to rituals involving the throwing of coins or the collection of water on specific feast days.
