Cointe Cró Ploughed-Out Earthen Ringfort — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Thirty centuries of ploughshares have flattened the ringfort at Cointe Cró into a low whisper on the Donegal ridge. Only the southeast sector remains visible because a field boundary stopped the blades before they erased the rest. The fairies may have watched human carts drag their house into soil, or they may have vanished when the first furrow cut the bank. Either way, the circle is gone except where accident preserved it.

Internal diam. 26m. A circular area enclosed by an almost ploughed-out earthen bank surviving up to c. 0.3m in height and an external fosse up to 2m in width. The SE sector has been divided off by a field boundary and the enclosed area is better preserved. There is extensive evidence of tillage over the rest of the site. It is located in an area of fairly good pasture on a low E-W ridge on the floor of Glencolumbkille valley. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
