Castle (medieval)

What is recorded here

Cobairdy Castle appeared near the mansion house of Cobairdy in Aberdeenshire, built around 1500 during the medieval era. The castle vanished completely, leaving no visible trace behind. It may have stood as a private defence or a family seat, but the earth absorbed every wall and room without warning.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cobairdy Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Cobairdy Castle was a medieval stronghold, likely built in the 13th or 14th century, and is remembered for its strategic position in the Scottish Borders region, an area frequently contested during conflicts between England and Scotland.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
