What is recorded here

Coalhouse Fort is an intact Thames defence in Thurrock, England, built from 1861 to 1874 and decommissioned in 1949. It stands on marshy ground at Coalhouse Point, where granite, cast iron and concrete were forced to hold against water, saltpetre and time. Its guns were revised as the river defence changed, and its last military role was training after the Second World War.
Coalhouse Fort is shown as a fort on the public map of Thurrock. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
Built in the 19th century as part of Britain's coastal defense system, Coalhouse Fort was designed to protect London from seaborne attack. It is remembered for its role in the First and Second World Wars, particularly as a gun battery and later as a radar station.
