What is recorded here
This white commemorative plaque records: The Co-op (1868-1994). Buckhaven Co-operative's first shop still stands in the courtyard behind. It was replaced in 1906 by the grandiose department store which, having merged with other Fife Co-ops, closed its doors in 1994.
The Buckhaven Co-operative, established in 1868, was a significant local institution that embodied the co-operative movement's principles of mutual aid and community benefit, operating until its closure in 1994.
A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
