Castle Gardens, Dunoon: a battery that watched the Clyde through both world wars, searching the dark for submarines and planes. Steel, concrete and light turned the harbour into a killing field, while ordinary people lived beside the guns.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Clyde Defences, Dunoon, Castle Gardens, Dunoon Battery as Anti Aircraft Battery (second World War), Coastal Battery (second World War), Searchlight Battery (second World War), Searchlight Battery (first World War). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Built during the Second World War, the Dunoon Battery was part of the Clyde Defences, serving as an anti-aircraft and coastal battery to protect the strategically vital Firth of Clyde. It is remembered as a key element of Scotland's wartime military infrastructure.
