Cluny Castle, Meal Mill

Watermill (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

Cluny Castle, Meal Mill stands in Badenoch and Strathspey as a watermill whose wheels probably turned local grain into flour long before anyone wrote the story down. The mill cottage beside it suggests people lived close enough to hear the gears grind through rain and darkness. Whether it served soldiers, tenants or travelling traders remains unknown, but the stones still point to a place where hunger was answered with water and patience.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cluny Castle, Meal Mill as Watermill (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
