Clochan in Fán

Clochan

What is recorded here

Clochan in Fán preserves a possible ancient doorway through a cairn of stones and two jambs, waiting for human hands to test its edges. It belongs to County Kerry, where stone and memory still tangle. The shape suggests a chamber built for passage, ceremony or concealment, yet no certain event has been recovered.
A possible clochaun represented by a cairn of stones and 2 possible jamb stones (Macalister 1899, 238). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 1468. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
