What is recorded here
Clochan in An Tseantóir is a small corbelled drystone hut on a steep slope above Dunquin, misread by local tradition as a fort. Its western recess keeps a roof and a stone sill, shaping a dark chamber that invites imagination rather than proof. The chamber may have hidden a person, a child, or a memory, but it still stands as a small room built to resist forgetting.
Lios na bPúcaí: On a fairly steep and uneven slope overlooking Dunquin and the Blasket islands. Though known locally as a fort, the remains at this site are those of a roughly oval, corbelled drystone hut. D: 3.5 x 2.7m. H: 1.5m. A large recess, also of corbelled construction and still retaining its roof, opens off its W side. It is U-shaped in plan, measuring 1.15m wide x 1.15m high at the entrance, but increasing inside to a height of 1.5m. It is 1.7m deep. Two low upright slabs form a sill across the entrance of the recess.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 1333. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
