This black commemorative plaque records: This plaque was unveiled on 4th September 1986 by Sir George Porter P.R.S. President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the laying of the Clifton Suspension Bridge foundation stone by his predecessor the Marquis of Northampton on 27th August 1836 at 7.17 a.m. Recorded plaque organisation: British Association for the Advancement of Science.
Lord George Porter OM PRS FRS was a distinguished chemist and science administrator, known for his research in flash spectroscopy; he served as President of the Royal Society and played a significant role in promoting scientific education and research in the UK.
