Cleit Mòr rises to approximately 500 metres and is part of the rugged landscape of the Outer Hebrides. Its name, meaning "Great Cleft" in Scottish Gaelic, may refer to a notable geological feature or a local legend involving a split in the mountain. As a prominent peak in a sparsely mountainous region, it contributes to the geographical and cultural identity of Na h-Eileanan Siar.
