Cathcart Castle, located near Clarkston on Mearns Road, was originally built by the Maxwell family in the late 16th century and later held by the Montgomeries, Earls of Eglinton. It is remembered for its historical significance as a fortified residence and for its later transformation into a golf course in the 19th century.
