CIST with CREMATION BURIAL: THE CROMLECH FIELD. GREY STONES in Duvernagh

CIST with CREMATION BURIAL: THE CROMLECH FIELD. GREY STONES

What is recorded here

Grey stones still mark the Duvernagh field where cremated bones entered a cist before history learned to write. The place belongs to the prehistoric dead, yet it speaks through ordinary stone, earth and memory. People may have gathered there to release the dead into fire, then keep what remained inside a small chamber. The field does not need a modern name to be sacred. It is a chamber of ashes, patience and grey light.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CIST with CREMATION BURIAL: THE CROMLECH FIELD. GREY STONES. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Cist with cremation burial, likely dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. This site represents a small burial chamber associated with prehistoric funerary practices in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
