What is recorded here

This yellow commemorative plaque records: Cirencester Lock-up. This 18th century building stood in Gloucester Street until moved here by 1837 to form part of the Cirencester workhouse. Now restored, it displays the history of both buildings. Key and leaflet available from the office reception or from the Corinium Museum. Recorded plaque organisation: Cotswold District Council Museums Service.
Cirencester Lock-up is an 18th-century structure originally used for detaining criminals overnight before their appearance in court; its relocation to form part of the Cirencester workhouse in 1837 reflects changes in local governance and social welfare systems.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
