What is recorded here
Echlinville in County Down may have been a place of worship before the Norman invasion. The possibility of a Pre-Norman church suggests the land was sacred before it was recorded. A church is a claim that people gathered there, believed together and shaped the earth for prayer. Nothing visible may remain, but the site still points to that older act of faith.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CHURCH SITE (poss. Pre-Norman). Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
