Church Island

Nine house sites and tangled field boundaries occupy Church Island, but the boundaries cut through houses and the causeway as if earlier life never existed. That collision suggests people kept returning to the small islet across centuries, rebuilding or ignoring what they found. The ground preserves several occupations at once, making the islet a compact archive of patience, forgetfulness and repeated beginning.
